Howard’s original tales – along with other Conan adventures – and working with such esteemed artists as John Buscema, Sal Buscema, Ernie Colon, Klaus Janson, and the amazing Gil Kane! Conan And The Demons Of Khitai (Conan (Dark Horse Unnumbered))

Set many years in the future from the award-winning ongoing series, Conan and the Demons and Khitai marks Conan’s first appearance as King in Dark Horse’s best-selling comics revival of the legendary fantasy hero. Conan: The Spear and Other Stories (Conan (Dark Horse Unnumbered))

Collecting all of the Conan and Conan the Cimmerian comic-book collaborations between acclaimed storyteller Timothy Truman (Scout, Grimjack, Jonah Hex) and veteran artist Paul Lee (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Spider-Man), Conan: The Spear and Other Stories is a tribute to Robert E. Howard’s tenacious King Conan. Beleaguered by attempts at his crown and sickened by political maneuverings, Conan is the sort of king who takes matters into his own bloody hands. Truman and Lee’s “They Shall Be Lords Again” and “Silent to the Sea” – from Conan issues #35 and #36 – work together as a sequel to “The Phoenix on the Sword,” a beloved Howard story. “The Tale of the Head,” from Conan #40, immediately follows Howard’s “The Scarlet Citadel” and pits Conan head-on against the powers of evil wizard Thoth-Amon. In “The Sorrows of Akivasha,” Lee fully paints and Truman fleshes out the sad plight of a seductive, centuries-old vampire from Robert E. Howard’s only Conan novel, The Hour of the Dragon. This collection also includes the Truman/Lee Conan short from the Free Comic Book Day 2006 Special, a Paul Lee sketchbook section, and colors on most stories by Eisner Award-winner Dave Stewart. Brutal battles on Pictish soil, scheming sorcerers, false prophets, a lust-filled vampire, and a little bit of humor – this is an excellent introduction to Dark Horse’s Conan universe for both entirely new fans and well-read, seasoned fans!

Conan Volume 9: Free Companions TP (Conan (Dark Horse))

Legendary artist Joe Kubert’s very first sequential Conan work, along with illustrations by Cary Nord, Justin Sweet, and Joseph Michael Linsner, highlight this latest collection of stories from Dark Horse’s ongoing Conan the Cimmerian comic-book series. In his short career as a mercenary, young Conan has impressed both Princess Yasmela and military leader Lord Amalric, but an ambitious, rogue prince arrives in Khoraja and blindsides Conan out of the comfortable, courtly situation he’s found himself in. Not only is Conan’s love affair with Yasmela going south, but rebel Prince Julion immediately challenges Conan’s headstrong impulses and military plans, causing a rift between the battered-but-proud forces of Khoraja and Amalric’s army of colorful mercs. The “Free Companions” and “Kozaki” story arcs are collected here, illustrated by series writer Tim Truman and regular series artist Tomas Giorello, with colors by Jose Villarrubia. In a special multigenerational piece titled “Home for the Hunt,” Benjamin Truman co-scripts with his father, while sequential art duties are deftly handled by Joe Kubert and Tim Truman. These original tales explore events alluded to in Robert E. Howard’s Conan lore and expand upon existing stories, as a youthful Conan tries to keep his barbarous nature and hot temper in check in order to prove that he can be a leader of men.
